Creating Custom Wall Types in Revit Architecture. Will Harris Book & Video Author Many people are excited about their first project in Revit Architecture. However, that excitement subsides when they are force to create their first custom wall. The confident designer gets overwhelmed with doubt and confusion. The ClarkDietrich Wall Type Creator™ is the first Autodesk® Revit® add-on design tool that intelligently incorporates detailed information on wall elements and design properties, such as UL assemblies based on fire rating requirements, STC sound ratings and limiting height design. Select Cuts Wall if you want the sweep to cut geometry out of the host wall. When a sweep is offset and embedded in the wall, it cuts the geometry from the wall. In complex models with many sweeps, you can increase performance by clearing this option. Select Cuttable if you want the sweep to be cut by wall inserts, as shown.

- Fast forward to present day We are transitioning to using REVIT for most of our projects and in the process of setting up our REVIT Standards. The goal is to identify the wall type, assembly description, wall thickness and showcase a plan view of the wall type.

A sweep adds material to a wall while the profile defines the shape of the wall.
To add a sweep to the wall type
- In the Edit Assembly dialog, click Sweeps.
- In the Wall Sweeps dialog, click Add.
- Click in the Profile column, and select a profile from the drop-down.
- Specify a material for the sweep.
- For Distance, specify the distance from either the top or base of the wall (select top or base in the From column).
- For Side, specify the interior or exterior of the wall.
- Specify a value, if necessary, for Offset.
A negative value moves the sweep toward the wall core.
- Select Flip to measure the distance from the top of the sweep profile rather than the bottom.
- For Setback, specify the sweep setback distance from inserts, such as windows and doors.
- Select Cuts Wall if you want the sweep to cut geometry out of the host wall.

- Select Cuttable if you want the sweep to be cut by wall inserts, as shown.
- Click OK.

Description
The ClarkDietrich Wall Type Creator™ is the first Autodesk® Revit® add-on design tool that intelligently incorporates detailed information on wall elements and design properties, such as UL assemblies based on fire rating requirements, STC sound ratings and limiting height design.
This type of interactive platform, in which details have been linked together, is truly unparalleled and gives architects and contractors everything needed to successfully design even the most challenging wall assemblies.
The system's intuitive design and integrated data on wall assemblies allows users to seamlessly search and update entire wall designs based on specific input parameters. The wall type is created to reflect the proper assembly of materials necessary for wall construction, including: manufacturer and product information, types of sheathing, overall wall width, UL and STC data, wall height design, LEED® information and product SubmittalPro® data sheet links.
Revit Exterior Wall Types
ClarkDietrich recognized a need among architects and contractors for BIM systems to include more detail on wall assemblies, in order to automate and streamline the building process. ClarkDietrich Wall Type Creator opens the door for architects to pass models onto contractors with the assurance all materials will work together within the overall building design.
